After being released by Super League team Huddersfield Giants, former Hull FC forward Andre Savelio has found a new club.
The 30-year-old will become friends with another former Black and White, Richard Horne, as he joins Championship club Doncaster.
In October, Savelio’s tenure with the Giants came to an end. The West Yorkshire team acknowledged that the player, who plays with a brain disease, was released to concentrate on his health. He has, however, secured his most recent position and has always been transparent about working part-time.
“The move is on good terms, and I’m going to take some time to look after my personal health and reassess what my options are moving forward,” Savelio stated while discussing his departure from Huddersfield at the time.
Following an impressive return to the Championship last season, he has now linked up with the Dons, who are aiming for the play-offs under Horne.
The former Hull half has been with the team for more than ten years and is overjoyed to get Savelio, who has also played for Warrington Wolves and St Helens in his career, over the line.
Horne said: “Andre has played at the top level for almost the entirety of his career, and we’ve seen before how players with that experience can impact the rest of the boys. Not only that, he’s a big, powerful lad that will contribute to both our attacking plays as well as defence.”
Savelio left Hull at the end of the 2023 season after five seasons with the club. He arrived from Brisbane Broncos in 2019 and has almost 150 Super League appearances to his name.
