The 21-year-old Glaswegian may be available for a “bargain” amount during the January transfer window because his Ibrox contract ends in the summer, according to a story published by the Sun journalist on his Patreon account on Sunday, January 5.
Devine has only made 11 appearances for the Gers’ senior team. He played 11 games in all competitions and scored one goal while on loan at Motherwell during the second half of the previous season.
West Brom are currently without a manager but it seems the Baggies are still trying to push on with adding to their squad this month.
Carlos Corberan left The Hawthorns for Valencia on Christmas Eve and it’s since been widely reported that the Black Country club is in no rush to appoint a replacement.
However, they do need to add to their squad, which has been hit by injuries this season.
Devine would be a choice to give the team more depth.
Darnell Furlong, one of the Albion’s greatest players this season and perhaps one of the best right-backs in the Championship, makes it doubtful that he will start.
Either way, it’s a good move for Devine, who is likely to get way more of a shot at first-team football in the West Midlands than he would if he stayed in Govan.
Devine, 21, has been on the books at Rangers for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks. He is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.
West Brom could see Devine as someone to bolster their defensive ranks.
If they did sign him, he would add competition and cover for Darnell Furlong at right-back.
In this latest update regarding his situation at Ibrox by journalist Nixon on Patreon, the Baggies have identified him as a target this winter.
The Midlands outfit remain in the hunt for a new manager to replace Carlos Corberan following his exit to Valencia.
West Brom are keen on landing the Scottish Premiership man before the end of the transfer window.
They are currently sat in 6th place in the Championship table and are inside the play-offs along with Sheffield United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
