According to sources, Wayne Rooney may soon get substantial offers to change occupations after leaving Plymouth.
After a challenging six months as the Championship team’s manager, the former Birmingham City manager resigned from his position at Home Park on Tuesday.
Rooney only managed four victories throughout his time there, and the team is currently wallowing in the bottom half of the standings.
Despite a track record that includes parting ways with four teams in just two-and-a-half years – Derby County, DC United, Birmingham and now Plymouth – Rooney’s insight into football remains in high demand, particularly from TV networks eager for his punditry skills.
According to a source quoted by The Sun, Wayne is considered to be among the top pundits in the industry. He knows a great deal about the game. Additionally, he feels very comfortable in a TV studio despite the fact that he is actually a pretty shy person.
Additionally, they stated: “Wayne’s 2024 has ended badly, but he won’t be unemployed for long.
He will immediately be offered punditry duties, and Sky is interested in a possible long-term agreement to bind him to the role.”
It is believed Rooney still holds managerial aspirations, yet like Gary Neville before him, he may find a more rewarding and financially beneficial career as a broadcaster rather than on the sidelines managing in the dugout.
Rooney has opened up about his departure from Plymouth, recognising the key figures he worked with at the club and expressing his lasting fondness for the team.
In his heartfelt message, Rooney stated: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Plymouth Argyle Football Club, in particular Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip who I shared great relationships with.
“Thanks also to all the staff who made me feel welcome and who make the club such a special place, the players and fans for their efforts and support during my time as Head Coach and I wish them all the best for the future.
To the Green Army thanks for making the games at Home Park so special, they are memories that we will share forever.
“I would also like to give a special mention to my coaching staff Kevin Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, Darryl Flahavan and Mike Phelan for their knowledge, dedication, help and support. Plymouth Argyle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to look out for and take interest in their results.”
